MAS / UFG(Universität für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung Linz,林茲藝術暨工業設計大學)—「Urban Metabolism-Approaches on the Ecology of Cities」交流計畫

Zhongdu Wetland as an Eco-Museum Exhibition

MAS’ current project is an extension of the 2018 Taipei Biennial-MAS TFAM Micro-Architecture Project. We proposed then the incorporation of The Taipei Fine Arts Museum with our micro-architecture into an extended ecosystem. In our current proposal, members of MAS transported the concept of micro-architecture into nature. Five architectural works were created to capture the appearance of the Zhongdu Wetland, addressing issues confronting this urban wetland.

The scale of the works reflects the changing relationship between human and nature, from harmonious coexistence to reckless human intervention. The works propose a conversation with nature where visitors are encouraged to participate. They bring to light the story of humans and nature while raising awareness of the ecology and challenges facing the Zhongdu Wetland.

About MAS(Micro Architecture Studio)

The Micro Architecture Studio(MAS)was founded in 2014 by Prof. Huai-Wen Chang. Its members comprise students from the Departments of Architecture at Tamkang University and Shih Chien University and from the Graduate Institute of Interdisciplinary Art at National Kaohsiung Normal University. It further includes an interdisciplinary team of consultants in the fields of architecture, landscape design, environmental engineering, ecology, water resources, smart control, lighting, and interactive installation.

Members of MAS hope to proactively address far reaching environmental issues through the close interaction between micro-architecture and the environment utilizing humble resources, practical actions, innovative thinking and optimism. We start by changing our immediate surroundings with the creation of a laboratory for future living to reverse the adverse effects of climate change. Through this we hope to develop ways of coexisting with nature.
