台灣總督府工業講習所木工科成立於明治45年(1912)年,為台灣第一間專業建築科系,距今已接近110年,也是今日的北科大建築系前身。本文以台灣建築教育源流之人物傳記為題,首先介紹日本時代台灣建築實務界極為活耀的二位北科大建築系老師:永島文太郎、田中大作技師。二人當年都參與了台北公會堂(今中山堂)的營造過程,永島為北科大木工科首批教員之一,作為台北市役所最高層級的建築官員,主持了許多重要的建築設計工作,而田中先生則是專注於建築結構專業研究,出版了許多的著作,其中又以《台灣島建築之研究》一書為日本時代三大建築史著作之一。(全文請見《實構築季刊》07期)
The Woodwork Department in The Taiwanese Governor General’s Office was established in the year of Meiji 45 (1912). It was the first architectural department established in a Taiwanese university. It is the precursor to the architectural department of Taipei Technical University. This paper is concerned with the origins of educators in architecture in Taiwan. It introduces the biographies of two active and famous architects of the department during the Japanese Era: Wentaro Nagashima and Daisaku Tanaka. Both architects participated in the construction of the Taipei Convention Hall (now Sun Yat-sen Hall). Mr. Nagashima was one of the first faculty members of the department. He was the highest civil engineering official of the Taipei City Government, responsible for many important construction and design works. Mr. Tanaka, on the other hand, devoted himself to the professional research on the structure of buildings and published many text on architectural. Among them ‘The Study of the Architecture History of Taiwan’ was one of three major works on architecture published during the Japanese Occupation of Taiwan.
