Puli is the rich agrarian hinterland of Central Taiwan. The 921 Earthquake in 1999 hit the region very hard, destroying many homes. The subsequent reconstruction efforts by the local communities were inspirational with the creation of the Taomi Eco-Village. Their accomplishments received much praise and represented a model for the transformation of traditional mountain villages. The Taomi Community Development Association, The Association for Taomi Recreational Agriculture District Promotion, and The New Homeland Foundation are three local groups devoted to building a more sustainable and harmonious Taomi.

Paper Dome New Homeland Resource Center is an ecological park replete with rich natural ecologies and a pleasant agricultural landscape. It is a place where various social enterprises are encouraged to strive. Due to a lack of shade covering from the subtropical sun, The Center did not attract enough tourists. In 2019, DZAA and Mr. Liu Zhao-Ming of Yue-Shan Workshop were engaged by the Nantou Branch of The Soil and Water Conservation Bureau to design two bamboo structures. They are to be located in the wide lotus field between the new and old dikes. The structures are to be multifunctional canopies for shading and rest.

The canopies were inspired by the leaves of indigenous plants of Taiwan. The Aristolochia and The Oman are both important herbivorous plants for butterflies. They reflect the rich ecological environment of the Taomi villages. The two bamboo pavilions are known as The Dream of Butterfly and The Butterfly of Dream. The structures are constructed from 5-6 cm diameter Moso bamboo, a species indigenous to Nantou. The use of bamboo sheets on the roofs and creek stone at the basements allows the pavilions to blend into the surroundings. The roof ridge of The Dream Butterfly Pavilion is open to natural light. The Bamboo-strip-woven ceiling and transparent PC corrugated roof board recall a natural bamboo forest. The roof is arched in the center with low eaves, creating an interior that is much wider and more spacious than expected. Approaching the pavilions from above, it seems as if two huge leaves are caressing, attracting the colorful butterflies around the lotus field to stop and rest.
