Towards a Biophilic Future: Culture, Beauty, and Human Nature (Pt.1)

During the past two decades, the profusion of architectural publications as well as the spectacular character of the publicized projects suggest that we are experiencing an unforeseen era of architectural ecstasy and euphoria. The current accumulations of wealth, global fluidity of capital, and the world-wide competition for commercial visibility, have no doubt, given rise to this development. New material technologies and novel computerised design and production methods have opened up unforeseen technical possibilities for architecture and made practically any conceivable formal invention technically feasible. As a consequence of this unforeseen architectural hubris, astonishing structures are rising in the commercial capitals of the world. It goes without saying, that I am here speaking of the wealthy industrialized world, as the architectural reality in the vast majority of the world is quite different.
