本案基地位置坐落於新竹縣湖口鄉，在地人口中有別於老湖口所稱的新湖口地區，附近西南方為湖口工業區；此區位於台地和丘陵地形的交界，地高乾燥，受風面風勢明顯，地形沿著窩口一路抬升。

都市街道

基地位在住宅區內，臨街巷道的基地面寬不及五米，為典型狹長條街屋，希望透過設計能在緊湊的街道中，銜接左右鄰近兩側的量體關係，也期望有機會能延伸住宅的內部活動，隱約地與街道產生連結。

街屋裡的野營台地

熱愛戶外活動和露營的范先生一家，因家中有三個男孩，在設計之初，為了能在這個家屋中大量的消耗他們的體力，透過三樓的多功能空間延伸一座像地景般大大的樓梯，樓梯伴隨著溜滑梯，一路延伸到二樓前臨街的半戶外露臺上，成為水平性開展的遊戲場；有時在這邊玩遊戲、坐在階梯上看電影、唱歌，也可以躺在吊網上放空，半戶外的露臺成為不能外出最好的露營營地，也是朋友來聚會留宿的場所，這些留白的彈性空間就像在野營時，活動和使用由喜歡自己動手的一家人各自定義和填滿。

山、天空

在這個狹長型面寬4.8米、深度28米的街屋空間中，特地留設鏤空的動線兼具天井的空間，讓光線垂直串連起各樓層，也使新鮮空氣流淌於生活空間中，感受四季天晴雨日；男孩們每次回房間的路徑也像攀登一座山林，層層充滿驚喜。

The Fan’s House is located in Hukou Township, Hsinchu County near the Hukou Industrial Park. The Fan’s House overlooks the new Hukou area where land and hillsides meet. It faces blustery wind and dry air corresponding to this change of topology.

Urban Context

The Fan’s House belongs to a community of shop-house typology. The main constraint is the extremely narrow access from the site to the main street with less than 5 meters. The project was designed with the intent of responding to the scale of the neighborhood and extending indoor activities to connect with the outdoor environment.

“Campsite” Alley

The playground veranda was created in response to the Fan family’s desire to introduce their enjoyment of camping and outdoor activities into the overall design. This provided a creative outlet for the Fan boys with excess energy. Stairs and slides were stacked and extended horizontally like a piece of landscape. They extend from the multi-function room at level three to the front veranda at level two. The veranda is a ‘campsite’ for indoor/ outdoor activities, providing flexible programming. It can be a space perfect for family gatherings, daydreaming, or for friends to ‘camp’ overnight.

Immersing Natural Experience

The atrium has a width of 4.8 meters and a depth of 28 meters corresponding to the shop-house module. It is framed by vertical circulation. The open-roofed atrium is surrounded by spaces for family gathering. It fills the Fan family with daylight, breezes from the outdoors, and the changes of the seasons. The children traveling from floor to floor recall experiences in mountain climbing, always full of surprises.
