The Globe Playhouse facing the Jiantan metro station is the “First Façade”of the Taipei Performing Arts Center and is an important visual focal point ofthe design. The sphere at 7F resembles a planet docking against the cube.

The interior finish of the 800-seat Globe Playhouse is defined by the light blue color of Pantone 646C. The seats are in the main auditorium on 7F and the Balcony Boxes on 8F to 10F. The seats in the audience are organized in response to the spherical surface, minimizing the distance between the stage and each seat. This creates an intimate atmosphere within the theater and facilitates interaction between the performers and the audience.

The structure of the Globe Playhouse is a double-layered spherical shell. The auditorium has an ellipsoidal structure spanning 26 meters from the eastern side of the cube, located between 5F and 12F. The inner shell houses the auditorium. Between the inner and the outer shells are the foyer, the circulation route, the Balcony Boxes, and the technical spaces at the ceiling for lighting facilities.

The reflectors above the stage, the fabrics of the seats, and the wall materials are all acoustic absorbent or reflective. The forestage is the orchestra pit, which can be adjusted to suit the acoustic needs of different types of performances, including stage plays, traditional drama, dance, and musicals. The Globe Playhouse can be combined with the large rehearsal room behind the stage. By moving the two large acoustic panels, the two spaces can form a T-shaped stage, or a performing space with the audience on two sides to enhance the possibilities for experimental works.
