This is a story about time, about sharing every fleeting
moment we are fortunate to be part of,and the tender feeling
of cherishing them…It is about the companionship between people and water;a bond that’s hard to describe, much like that between humans and their beloved pets.
Water has its own wildness,it has flowed across the earth for
millions of years, occasionally, it’s willing to play along and have some fun with
us. Year after year,we have finally learned to simply adjust the shape and orientation of the land,to share with those who
haven’t noticed, the quiet act of facing the mountains headon, and the great beauty and understanding that come with
it.
Just add a little here and there,to see those hands of different ages caring for the soil with tenderness,to see how people
leave space for others,to see the traces of cultivation from long ago, through the Japanese era, through war, through
disaster, and the perseverance to coexist with it all,the marks of life, bit by bit.
Keeping the water in the land,is the wisdom of our ancestors, with precise balance, with gentle offset.
I am captivated by that 2.2 kilometer long line, stretching toward the vastness of earth and sky.
To not interfere,to keep the heartfelt intentions of those before us,to preserve their already perfect imperfections, and
to softly touch the traces of time.
Secretly raising the terrain, reaching a height from which we can see the whole picture at the right moment,we imagine,
and we see,the bamboo fences and landscapes of the Yilan in everyone’s heart.
Different widths of water allow us to reflect to different emotions.
With total 250-meter-long field ridge stretches from far, far
away, passing through the water system, weaving the earth
together.
Under the vast starry sky,we choose lines that point toward the rising moon, and see the imagined connection with the sea.
With family and neighbors, we truly come to know each
other, eyes closed, hearing life, smelling time.
