Public Experience

The Taipei Performing Arts Center and its surroundings are open, forming a stage at the city center. In addition to the spaces for the performing arts, the design also incorporates public spaces on different levels. The Public Loop connects these spaces to create a route, allowing visitors without tickets to enter the building and experience both the theater and the public spaces.

An essential aspect of the design is the ambiguity of the public spaces, where visitors can define the relationships between the different areas. The tension between the front of house and the back of house, the dialogue between architecture, urbanism and city, and the integration of the street culture and performing arts – these can all be experienced in the theater. Here, the visitors are also performers, and vice versa.
