The Taipei Performing Arts Center consists of three theaters – the 1500-seat Grand Theater, the 800-seat Globe Playhouse, and the 800-seat BlueBox – each of which can operate autonomously. The theaters plug into acentral cube, which consolidates the stages, backstages and support spacesinto a single and efficient whole, allowing the stages to be modified or merged for unsuspected scenarios and uses. The design offers the advantages of specificity with the freedoms of the undefined.
Through the central cube, the theaters can be combined to form a fourth performing space. By opening the two soundproof walls separatingthe Grand Theater and the Blue Box, the two theaters can combine to form a 100-metre-long, 2300-seat Super Theater. This is a space for the most ambitious experimental performances where the possibilities for interaction between the performers and the audience are endless.
