This project is a 12-story multi-family residential building located on a shop-lined street in Taipei City. The residents of Taiwan exercise their cleverness on finding an impressive array of "intermediary territories" to enrich their lives in the island's hot and humid climate. They apply their ingenuity wherever they go in the city and forge extensions of the streets, encircling and sculpting makeshift spaces and places to merrily chat and dine with others. I have been thinking about how to create the kind of living space that suits the unique and vibrant lifestyles of Taiwanese people, while also designing a new type of clustered housing that is fitting for the 21st century. Hence, we have in mind not a residential tower with standard floor plans, but rather a way to give every unit an extensive terrace through setbacks and by skirting the confines of diagonal building height lines. The terraces are wrapped by slanted roofs and vegetation, creating comfortable three-dimensional "intermediary territories" on building surfaces.

Slanted roofs with a 3m grid are overlaid on top of post-and-beam systems on a 6m grid. The building structure is reinforced concrete while the slanted roofs are in lightweight steel frames. The roofs incline at a fixed angle, the expressions of the building originating from variations in the direction of inclination. The directions of inclination are allocated based on the divergence of rainwater flow to form a rainwater network. Delicate vertical roof posts and vertical drainpipes form a natural rhythm on the facades; in other words, the divergence of rainwater is portrayed in a three-dimensional way. Wind that whirls through the city along with protrusions and recesses in the building are gently dispersed throughout the building surfaces, also serving to enhance the comfort of the terraces and drastically reducing the forming of high-rise drafts.

There is now an interlinking relationship between building, air and water. This is the prototype of a 21-Century high-rise building perhaps most suitable to Asia.
