Design Concept

Prof. Senda Mitsuru, a world-known researcher of children’s playing, is also the advising professor of Ming-Hsien Wang’s master study. Mr. Senda has once said that the growth of children is dependent on mimicking, not on deliberate learning. A diverse playing environment can stimulate many parts of the children’s brain, with significant growth of children’s social and learning abilities. By fully applying the Six Prototypes of Playing Space (nature, open, road, chaos, equip, secret etc. spaces), the design team has created a diverse kindergarten.

Design Approach

Playing Loop is a model of children’s playing based on practical survey. The architect and designers have applied this concept, and used “road space” as main axis, connecting different playing spaces, creating a rich, diverse net with multiple dimensions.

The first floor of the kindergarten has large spaces and grass for children to explore natural environment. A dome-shape film is also placed in the main entrance. The circular corridor serves as main route for playing, with little houses attached beside for temporary staying. Tunnels, Circular Bridges and many others provide delightful traffic for the whole campus.

Furthermore, the architect has applied a new wooden construction to create a special roof and classroom, integrated with outdoor playing ground. A fresh, brand-new educational space with rich, outdoor playing ground provides a new model for integration of wood material and kindergarten.
